Cherry Hill, NJ - Meet Cory, a 5-year-old DNA confirmed Male, Green Cheek Conure. Cory is not an overly loud bird, but he does make noise when he wants, and certainly responds to other birds in the house. He gets along well with the other birds in the house, which include everything from budgies to larger parrots. He is a bit of an independent fellow, not loving to be scratched or touched. He enjoys being out and near his people but is not overly cuddly. He does give pretty clear signs, though, when he doesn't want contact or interaction, so being bitten is easily avoided by not pushing or forcing him. What makes all this not really a problem, is that his foster mom discovered he is incredibly well trained with target training, which seems to be the key to a harmonious relationship with him. He will go nearly anywhere you want, if you use a chopstick or other small wooden dowel, and have a treat prepared. He spins on command, waves hello, gives kisses, and will fly across the room if cued with the target. His favorite treat seems to be millet. Someone must have loved him dearly to spend the time training him this way in the past. A funny quirk of Cory's is that the one thing he LOVES to cuddle is feet. He seems to LOVE bare feet and will snuggle up against them. He does wander around on the floor a bit, so he should be carefully monitored when he's out. In his prior foster home, he seemed to prefer the man of the house, but in his current foster home, he seems to hold a grudge against the more masculine of his foster parents, but the family isn't sure why. Cory exhibits some cage aggression when he's in his cage. As long as he's not inside it, he doesn't bother the family when they're cleaning it or changing out food and water. The cage aggression seems to have improved a bit but will show itself randomly and unexpectedly. Cory loves to take sink baths instead of using his water bowls and will fly to the sink when he hears the water running. He will then jump in for a shower when the stream is slow. Please make sure you are aware of this and that the water is not fully 'HOT.' This usually happens every couple of days. Cory is on a healthy diet of pellets and chops, which includes all kinds of vegetables and grains. He also enjoys grapes, cherries, and other fruits as treats. His favorite nighttime treat is a piece of walnut or millet. Because of Cory's cage aggression and the fact that he seems determined to dislike one of the family members in his foster home, potential adopters will be required to have 3 visits with Cory prior to taking him home.
